[BACKGROUND]

h i s t o r y

The Canadian newlyweds Alec and Ruth Cross had just inherited some acres of land and a rather large house in the south of Alabama, following the sudden death of Alec’s great uncle. While they were deciding whether to move or not, the possibility of having a baby came up. As soon as they obtained their visa, they packed everything, leaving Montreal behind. However, in their Volkswagen van, somewhere around Nashville, Russell was conceived. Of course, they wouldn’t find out until much later, when they were finally warmed up to their new house.

Alec had soon found a job in a multi-million company and the power started to rise to his head. Ruth kept her composure as a pub owner, usually taking Russell with her and letting him roam behind the bar. It was the place where he grew up with his favorite music, developing his love for classic rock and various types of metal. Ruth was incredibly proud of her son for showing musical talent very early, and bought him a small guitar for his sixth birthday. Alec on the other hand, having recently found the “land of all possibilities”, decided that music was not one of those possibilities and from then on, he did his best trying to stop Russell from pursuing a musical career. As soon as Russell realized that his father was against his musical career, he ran away from home. He didn’t manage to get far because his mother came running after him. That was the moment he started to enjoy running as a whole. After starting school, Russell joined the track team, training hard every day and over the years he gained quite an impressive endurance. During middle school, Russell was incredibly focused on school and track. His idea was that if he does well in both, his father would eventually stop hating him. It took him a long time until he figured Alec hated his dreams, but not him.

Eventually, when high school came around, Russell stopped learning so much once he noticed his father didn’t really hate him. He focused more on self-teaching guitar and drums, as well as winning regional championships for running. Halfway through freshman year, Ruth made the decision of sending him to Texas to finish the high school there. It wasn’t really an inconvenience as he could now play his music and finally feel free from his father’s judging stares. His first year there wasn’t exactly thrilling, but the more time he spent there, the more he got used to the people and the differences between TX and AL. As soon as he got off the plane, he received a message from his mom that she would soon give birth to a girl. Russell was quite disappointed that he wouldn't get to meet his sister soon.

Passing by the music class some time before the summer break of senior year, he noticed it was empty with the exception of a boy, who was a sophomore at the time. The boy's name was Adam. They quickly became friends and managed to spend their summer together, experiencing similar interests, discovering new places and...other things. Russell was secretly worried Adam wouldn't be too glad at the proposal of a relationship, mainly because of the prejudice they'd both face in the southern state. A week before he was actually supposed to leave, Russell packed his bags and left back to AL without a trace. He'd never hear from Adam again and vice versa until army would bring them back together.

Coming back to his home city, Russell immediately took into the role of taking care of his sister, who was four years old at the time. Pursued by his mother, he attempted one year at the community college, not being able to decide on a major. Angry with his lack of choices, Russell dropped out and sought out members for a band he had in mind. Sick of his shenanigans, Alec was set on making his son join the army. It didn't work the first few times he asked nicely, but soon Russell finally figured out that he doesn't really have a plan for himself. Probably joining the army was the best idea at the time. Eventually, he enrolled with the tuition paid by his father and had the (un)pleasant surprise of meeting Adam again. The tension was incredibly high and Russell often found himself wondering how did they survive the first year without killing each other. Both were changed, for the good or the worse, but the future is approaching fast and none of them have any idea what's in store for later.

[PERSONALITY]

t r a i t s

+ honest; affectionate/kind; principled
0 introvert; conservative; passive
- reckless; crude; fanatical

Growing up in Alabama took out the Canadian blood from him and replaced it with the purest form of redneck. While still having some manners and self respect, Russell is a very honest person; never in his life had he once lied and if he did, it was to protect people, not feelings. If he thinks your hair is awful, he will let you know. Having a little sister developed his sense of affection and caring, making him a very kind person. However, while he is very kind, that does not take away from him being incredibly crude. Honesty and kindness aren't perceived like they should be if the person is rude. Most of the time Russell doesn't even realize that what is coming out of his mouth might hurt someone's feelings, however, the last trace of Canadian in him shows up, and he apologizes as soon as he realizes his mistakes.

Russell was taught from an early age to hold on to his principles and beliefs, thus making him principled, but sometimes, a little too zealous and fanatical. Sure, he stands for some good causes, like global warming, LGBT rights and war funding. The fanatical and conservative aspect of it is taken too seriously when the discussion diverges to something like politics, religion or women's rights. He is too proud to let go of his beliefs, although sometimes he has serious doubts whether that is the right way to approach the subjects.

However, regarding other things, Russell isn't so passionate about, mostly passive one would say. There are lots of every-day occurrences that do not particularly bring out a reaction out of him. But if it happens and he wants to intervene, Russell can be quite reckless. Rarely does it happen that he is thinking twice before jumping to conclusion/actions. He is also an introvert, more than he is an extrovert. He can easily handle large groups, parties and anything similar, but he would much rather prefer sitting on his own and minding his own business.

Can do anything (Skype, Docs, Discord) as long as there is a record of it and we don't lose track of it.

I am able to mold depending on people's preferences, however I highly suggest lit and well developed paragraphs as I have something of a 6-7 year long experience when it comes to roleplaying. I am very open to headcanons! Like yes, please hmu at 3 in the morning that your character likes his rice fluffy and not dry when my character cooks it, I'll record that as well on a Google Doc, because there's nothing I like more than headcanons.

I am 2nd year of college so I might take some time to reply, please be patient with me, although I don't mind the occasional reminders.
I am a bit wary of small talk RPs, since I have definitely grown out of that phase, I'd like to establish a setting and an active moment before starting.
I will absolutely NOT roleplay R18 stuff with minors. Sure, I was once 15 and I knew what sex was and how it worked, but I'd rather not get any of the parties involved into trouble. No. Not even if you are 17 and a half.
As for people that are over 18, I can roleplay pretty much anything, violence especially, however the one thing I will never roleplay is sexual abuse/rape due to personal reasons and experiences.
